Goodman Fielder scheduled a 24-hour shutdown at their Burleigh Heads site to replace the energy chain and the cables running through it on a Cimcorp crate robot, known on site as the PBL.
An energy chain carries power and control cabling to moving plant, so both the chain and the cables inside it wear with use. Replacing them means the robot is out of service, which is why the work was planned into a shutdown window rather than left to fail during production.
The full sequence had to fit inside 24 hours: document and label the existing cabling, disconnect, replace the chain and the cables within it, reconnect, then commission and return the robot to service.
Labelling before disconnection is the part that decides whether the rest of the job runs to time. With that many cores through a single chain, an unlabelled disconnection turns reconnection into a tracing exercise, and a fixed window leaves no room for it.
The replacement energy chain did not take the same cable configuration as the original. The correct cables were identified on site and the installation proceeded from there.
The energy chain and cables were replaced, the robot was reconnected and commissioned, and the work was completed within the allocated shutdown window.
